TANO NORTH MCE REAFFIRMS SUPPORT PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
The Municipal Chief Executive for Tano North, Hon. Pius Sampson Opoku, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving the livelihoods and wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through support from the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Speaking at an event held at the forecourt of the Tano North Municipal Assembly on 14th September 2026, Hon. Pius Sampson Opoku said the initiative was intended to restore hope, create opportunities and empower Persons with Disabilities to become economically self-reliant.
He explained that the support included livelihood and assistive equipment such as wheelchairs, hairdressing equipment, grinding machines, freezers and ice chests, motorbikes, pumping and spraying machines, welding machines, provisions for petty trading and other income-generating items.
According to him, the intervention was designed to support beneficiaries in areas including healthcare, education, skills development and economic empowerment, enabling them to improve their living conditions and contribute meaningfully to society.
Hon. Pius Sampson Opoku also called on Persons with Disabilities, their associations, Assembly Members, community leaders and families to support the Assembly in developing a comprehensive database of PWDs within the municipality.
He noted that an accurate database would enable the Assembly to identify more beneficiaries and ensure that future government interventions reached the intended people.
The MCE further disclosed that efforts would be made to facilitate National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration for persons who were not currently covered, as part of measures to improve access to healthcare.
Hon. Pius Sampson Opoku assured the gathering that the Tano North Municipal Assembly would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement programmes that promote inclusion, dignity, economic empowerment and equal opportunities for Persons with Disabilities.
