The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Paramount Chief of Kenyase No. 2, Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, following findings that he breached the customs, traditions, and sacred laws of the Asante Kingdom.
The decision was reached during a sitting of the Asanteman Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The Paramount Chief was removed from office together with nearly all his kingmakers after they were found to have violated the oath of office required of traditional leaders. Their removal reflects the Asanteman Traditional Council's commitment to enforcing discipline and safeguarding the integrity of the chieftaincy institution.
However, the Asantehene exercised discretion by sparing the Kontihene from the sanctions. He also reinstated the previously destooled Akyeame and other linguists of the traditional council, restoring them to their respective roles.
The development highlights the Asante Kingdom's continued resolve to uphold its customs, traditions, and values while ensuring that traditional authorities remain accountable to the oaths and responsibilities associated with their offices.
The ruling is expected to reinforce respect for customary law and serve as a reminder that breaches of traditional obligations carry significant consequences within the Asante chieftaincy system.
