According to Dr. Asante, his childhood mentor, Dr. Etienne Lommen, a renowned plastic surgeon in the Netherlands, invited him on several occasions to work with him at Vlietland Hospital in Holland. Dr. Lommen had hoped to mentor him into becoming a plastic surgeon.

However, during one of Dr. Asante's visits in his fifth year of medical school, everything changed. After reviewing a photograph of a prosthetic hand prototype designed by the young medical student, Dr. Lommen recognised his exceptional interest and potential in reconstructive technology.

Instead of continuing with plastic surgery training, Dr. Lommen introduced Dr. Asante to an orthopaedic surgeon to further develop his skills in the field, believing it was the best path to nurture his talent.
